Generally, 3D SCAN is similar to a traditional LAND SURVEY.
All the objects located within the covered area of a scanner will be targeted and digitized in the form of millions of pixels that represent the coordinates (x, y and z) of an object in 3D space. These data are to be used to pinpoint the precise locations, distances, sizes of pipes or equipment.
USE 3D SCAN TO LOCATE:
- TIE-IN POINTS.
- CLASH DETECTOR.
- DISTANCES.
- PIPE DIAMETER.
a. Benefits
Use of 3D Scan allows you to:
- READY FOR FAST TRACK PROJECT STUDIES.
- 100% SAFETY FOR PERSONNEL (No risk of falling from measuring in high elevation)
- PRODUCE ACCURATE DRAWINGS & RELIABLE INFORMATION. (Avoid site re-work )
- GREATLY REDUCE TRAVEL TIME FOR SITE VISITS.
- PROVIDE COMPLETE INFO FOR ACCURATE PROJECT ESTIMATE.
- SUITABLE FOR SMALL-SCALE PROJECT

b. Procedure (Small windows, dynamic pics or make a short video)
i. STEP 1: In the scanning software
- 1. POINT AND CLICK ON PIPES TO INDICATE THE LOCATIONS OF TIE-POINTS.
- 2. A SET OF COORDINATES (x,y,z) WILL BE REGISTERED FOR EACH TIE-POINT.
EXTRACT 2 SETS OF COORDINATES TO DEFINE 2 TIE-IN POINTS ON CENTER OF PIPE
ii. STEP 2
- LINKING SCANNED POINT CLOUD DATA WITH 3d piping design software
- RUN NEW PIPE
CLASH DETECTOR: DESIGNER CAN SEE THE INTERFERENCES IN BOTH POINT CLOUD AND 3D piping design software
- Run new pipe based on coordinates of the SCANNED tie-in points
c. Who performs?
- Well-trained engineer (years of experience > 5) from Viet Engineering and Ultragen Canada.
